Overview

My product is a personal finance and investing newsletter. It grew organically on Substack to about 120,000 subscribers, with no paid ads, and earned around $1,000/month from sponsors. Substack then suspended the publication over a sponsored promotion that went against its content guidelines. I moved the newsletter to Kit to keep it running. It’s live there, and sponsors are still contacting us.

Key highlights

~120,000 subscribers, all organic from Substack.

~$1,000/month in sponsor revenue while active.

Moved to Kit and sending again. Delivery tests are good, and the engaged segment gets ~20% opens.

Sponsors still reach out. The latest offer was about $1,000 for one sponsored send.

241+ articles in the archive.

Daily Drop format and workflow ready to run.

Domain and website.

Revenue and profit

About $1,000/month from sponsors while active on Substack. Current revenue is low while the list is being rebuilt on Kit. Costs are small (Kit plan, domain). Statements are available on request. Past revenue is not a forecast.

Team

Founder-run. One person can operate it. The research and drafting workflow is largely automated, and I’ll walk the buyer through it.

Tech stack

Kit (email), the website and domain, the content archive, and the Daily Drop email templates.

Marketing and growth

Fully organic growth on Substack through personal finance content. The list is now moving to Kit in waves, starting with the most engaged readers. The next step for a buyer is to keep re-engaging the list and bring sponsors back.

Return on investment

The buyer gets the brand, an organic audience history, a working format and inbound sponsor interest, instead of starting from zero. Payback depends on the price and how fast the active list grows.

Startup assets

Brand

Domain and website

Content archive: 241+ articles

Daily Drop templates and workflow

Kit account setup and performance history

Subscriber data: full export of the original ~120,000 organic Substack subscribers

Substack account access: the account is registered to team@, which transfers with the domain. The buyer can use it to view and download the archive and subscriber data, where Substack allows. The publication is suspended and can’t publish.

Risks

This is a restart project. The Substack publication is suspended, so the buyer needs email experience to bring the list back to full strength, which means careful, gradual sending and choosing sponsors that fit platform rules. Subscriber data transfers depend on platform terms and privacy law. Historical revenue is per the owner’s records and future revenue is not guaranteed.

Summary

A personal finance newsletter brand with ~120,000 organic subscribers, ~$1,000/month in past sponsor revenue, a working Kit setup and sponsors still reaching out. It’s best suited to an experienced newsletter operator who can bring the list back to full strength.

✅ $1,000 TTM revenue

✅ 120,000 subscribers

✅ Business model: Ads

✅ Built with Substack

Business Model

Sponsored newsletter placements (about $1,000/month on average while active on Substack), plus affiliate offers, per-click ad networks and premium products. Currently free for readers.

Target Audience

Readers: U.S. adults interested in personal finance, saving, investing and money news. Customers who pay: sponsors and finance brands that want to reach that audience.

Asking Price Reasoning

120,000 organic subscribers, built with no paid ads. Acquiring an audience of this size from scratch would cost far more than the price.

Reason for Selling

I run several projects and want to focus my time on them. My newsletter has a strong audience and sponsor interest, and it needs an operator who can give it daily attention to bring the list back to full strength.

Growth Opportunity

Re-engage the 120K list in waves and rebuild a clean, active audience. Sell sponsored placements again (inbound offers keep arriving, the latest ~$1,000), add affiliate and per-click ad revenue, and launch a premium product.

Competitors
