Overview

My product is a weekly email newsletter for dog owners. It has 50,645 subscribers on Substack, and 96% of the people who open it live in the US.

Each issue tells a dog story (a 15-year-old golden doing Pilates, a guard dog who greeted a burglar with a toy), then explains in plain words why dogs do what they do.

People open it. Recent issues get 46–55% open rates.

If you sell to dog owners (training, food, supplements, insurance, gear), these readers are your customers. I'm not promoting any offers right now, so you'd pick what this list sees next.

Key numbers

50,645 subscribers (Substack dashboard, Oct 8, 2026)

46–55% open rates on the last 6 issues

30,000–43,000 views per issue

96% are in the US (all 50 states, plus 4% other countries)

Sent weekly/bi-weekly since Dec 31, 2024

How the list was built

Starting in 2021, I ran Google Search ads to a free signup form. Dog owners who signed up got a 7-day email course on loose-leash walking, biting, barking, potty training and grooming.

Each email taught a real skill. And each one had a link in the footer, a dog-training program I promoted as an affiliate.

That email series earned $145,816 from 4,059 sales. Everyone who signed up stayed on the list, and that's how it grew past 50K.

When Google Ads costs went up, I stopped the ads. Then I sent one offer to the list. It earned $10,009 from 143 sales.

That's when I learned what the list could do. On Dec 31, 2024, I started a weekly newsletter so readers would hear from me every week, even when I had nothing to sell.

I wanted readers to trust me first, and the open rates show it worked.

So the next owner gets a list that has heard from me every week for 21 months. It's also approved for Wellput's sponsor network (Oct 2026), so sponsor ads can start as soon as you take over.

How it runs

Each issue takes me about 1 hour.

First I give Grok a 2-minute prompt to research a dog story or behavior topic. Then I write the issue with Claude, using a voice profile I built so every issue sounds the same. I write it one paragraph at a time and edit as I go.

The newsletter name is pen names, and Bentley is a fictional dog. There's no real founder for readers to miss, so you can keep the same names and the same voice after you take over.

What you get

The Substack publication, with every past post and all drafts

The full subscriber list (50,645 emails, CSV export)

My voice profile and the Claude prompts I use to write each issue

My Grok research prompt

The approved Wellput sponsor account

A 1-hour handover call with me

Why I'm selling

This was always a side business, and I can't give it enough time anymore.

I applied to Wellput so the next owner would have a way to earn from the list from day one. I'll run a few sponsor campaigns before the sale and share the real numbers with serious buyers.

✅ $350 TTM revenue

✅ 50,645 subscribers

✅ Business model: Affiliate

✅ Built with Substack, Claude

Business Model

Free weekly newsletter. It earns from affiliate offers sent to the list. Now approved for Wellput sponsorships. No paid tier.

Target Audience

US dog owners who searched Google for help training their dog (leash pulling, biting, barking, potty training). 96% of recent openers are in the US.

Asking Price Reasoning

50,645 subscribers at about $0.49 each. Recent issues get 46–55% open rates, and 96% of openers are in the US. This list has earned $155K+ from dog-training offers and is approved for Wellput sponsors. Last-12-month revenue is low because I sent only 2 offers.

Reason for Selling

This was always a side business, and I can't give it enough time anymore.

Growth Opportunity

Create a digital product or training course around the biggest problems US dog owners have (leash pulling, biting, barking, potty training). This list has already bought $155K+ of dog training. Book more sponsors: each issue gets 30,000–43,000 views.
